Tucker the Therapy Dog

Over Christmas break I took some of the kids to the rec center.  It was a fun evening of swimming.  Sophi, Lexi, Xander, Taylor and Parker all went.  I think the two oldest boys went as much to be sweet as because they wanted to.  They were so good with the younger kids, spending time with each one of them.  (At least as much as the kids would let them.  Sophi is pretty particular about who can hold her in the pool.  Only mom or dad!  AND SHE'LL TELL YOU THIS AT THE TOP OF HER LUNGS IF SOMEONE ELSE TRIES TO TAKE HER!!!)

On our way out of the rec center we came across a lady with a therapy dog.  A dog trained to love kids and others with special needs.  Talk about hitting the jackpot!  Our group couldn't get enough of Tucker.  The lady was so sweet.  She let us dote on and hug and pet (with both hands and feet) and hug some more her wonderful dog.  And Tucker was so patient.

It was a fun experience for the kids and almost made me think a pet could be a good idea for our family….  Almost!

  1. Bernese Mountain Dogs are seriously the best dogs in the world. We adored our Olaf. He was absolutely huge but wouldn't hurt a fly and adored all children. I remember once being at a park with him and a little boy of about 4 came over to say hi. As usual, Olaf sat perfectly still just letting this little guy pet him. Then the boy's mom came running over and said, "I'm so sorry, he's afraid of dogs." I told her that if he was, Olaf was the perfect dog to pet because he's a big cream puff. "Besides," I said, "He doesn't look afraid to me." She insisted and told her son, "No, you're AFRAID of dogs!" and pulled him away. I've always remembered that brief encounter and have tried to not pass on my fears onto my kids. Glad your family had the opportunity to love on a berner. It always brightens your day!

  2. I have been wondering how Elli is doing in her special space. It seems like it must becoming harder to take her out. Would she enjoy the pool at the rec. center? Please don't take my questions as criticisms. I am a consultant to families with autistic children and adults. I am curious about Elli.

  3. What a beautiful dog! How fun that the kiddos got to meet him. (But if you get a dog, I am going to have you declared clinically insane.)

  4. As adorable as that dog is can you even imagine adding pet issues into the mix? CRAZY! If anyone could handle it I'm sure it would be you!

  5. You are going to want to look up a company's reputation before you start purchasing things from them and sending them money. Unfortunately, anyone can start a business on the Internet these days. dog toy
