Day One

We must remember we now have 10 children.  This morning we woke up pretty exhausted.  We all fought through it and got ready for church.  We rushed out the door just a little late.  Christi and Graci were in the car.  I was in the van with everyone else.  On the short drive I gave instructions as I usually do.  Taylor, you help Lexi in, Parker, you help Sophi, etc.  We parked the cars, walked in and found our usual seats at the very back of the overflow seating.  I moved a chair out of the way for Cali's wheelchair.  I counted the number of chairs in the row and realized we would need two more.  I got two more chairs and put them on the end of the row.  All the kids were getting seated.  Suddenly Christi said, "Where's Elli?"  I looked and re-looked.  "Didn't Taylor bring her in?"  Apparently not.  Christi rushed out to the van and sure enough, there was Elle, bouncing and contended as could be.  Way to go, Dad!

  1. I grew up as #3 out of 8 kids! One day we were on or way to church and got about halfway there when I looked around and realized my older brother wasn't in the van. When we got back to our house we found him, just getting out of the shower. He was about 14 at the time.

  2. That is so funny!! And you can just smile about it since Elli was happy and having fun. I think it was just last year that we had 8:30 church, and we were all (minus Chris, who was there early for meetings) rushing around getting ready and made a mad dash for the church as we always do. I can't remember if we realized in the car or once we went inside the church that Bethany wasn't with us. We realized that no one had seen her all morning! We assumed that she was still sleeping, so I had the other kids go to church while I drove home to find out! Yep, she was asleep in bed! Ha Ha!

    1. For those who don't know our family - Bethany is the 17-year old. :) At least it was an older child left home alone!

    2. And if she reads this, she'll likely want me to make the correction - she is now 18. That Sunday was a year or so ago.

  3. I thought I had a full proof way to make sure I didn't leave kids behind. Until the neighbor child hopped in. Counts were right, just not the right heads. The toddler was contentedly still napping during the quick trip around the block:) Now, I look them each in the face and still ask is everybody here just to be sure.

  5. Somedays we lose our kids as easy as we lose our marbles!
